Who says fishing isn't a spectators sport?????

Annual Burbot Derby

The FFFES Annual Burbot Derby was initiated in 1988, to promote the use of rough fish thus alleviating the pressure on prime species (trout, walleye, pike).

The Burbot Derby is held the first weekend in April every year and runs from the Friday to the Sunday.

Thanks to the effort of our dedicated volunteers and sponsors we are able to award THOUSANDS of Dollars in cash and prizes.

These prizes are awarded in several different event categories including: the Vaughan Kshywiecki Memorial Main Event, Youth Event, there are also prizes for oldest fisherman and fisherwoman, daily largest and smallest, and best dressed burbot, and Sunday draws to name a few. Check out prize list for more information.

In 1994, the World Record Burbot was caught on Lake Athapapuskow during the Burbot Derby, by Vaughan Kshywiecki. The fish weighed 22 pounds 8 ounces and measured 42 1/2 inches long.

In 1998 Vaughan passed away, the FFFES decided to rename The Main Event, The Vaughan Kshywiecki Memorial Main Event in honor of Vaughan's memory.
